"Dolphins" are the emblem of those U.S. Navy personnel who have "qualified" in submarines. This long process is involved with learning all of the various components of a submarine and it's operation. Only after months of hard study and testing by other crew members does one become "qualified" to wear the Dolphins. Enlisted men wear silver Dolphins, officers wear gold Dolphins.
